If you're hiring a ghostwriter, you'll need a thorough ghost writing contract.

This is NO SMALL DEAL.

This is a critical piece of working with a ghostwriter because your relationship with your ghost is paramount to your success as a team. And the ghost writing contract is what defines your relationship.

Keep in mind, a ghost writing contract is NOT just important if you run into problems with your writer. Things might be going well between the two of you, but fate may step in and provide obstacles in either one of your lives. What happens if the writing needs to stop? What happens if you can no longer pay? A good contract will help you know how to handle situations like these.

I have read books showing other ghostwriters' contracts. I have studied articles on the subject. But I've yet to find any contract as thorough as the one I use, which is 25 legal paragraphs long (6 single-spaced pages). This isn't just fluff -- it's everything that I think really NEEDS to be included.

Of course I've had my lawyer review and approve it. And since I've made it available to others, I've had lawyers purchase it; I've had ghostwriters purchase and use it with their clients; and I've had very positive feedback from those who frequently work with legal papers.
