How Long Until Your Manuscript is Published? NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE PUBLISHED. The ADVANTAGE to using any ghostwriter is that a talented writer can produce a manuscript in the correct format and with the kind of professional style and finish that a publishing company is looking for. If you cannot do this yourself but you want to be published, you need to invest in some sort of outside help. A ghostwriter is the most comprehensive form of help.
(If you want to write the entire first draft yourself, you may do well enough to only require an editor or even a copyeditor if you're quite good!) If you decide to invest in a ghostwriter, you are investing in the production of a sellable manuscript. You are not necessarily investing in a published book. Having said all this, time to publication can vary so widely, it's ALMOST pointless to discuss. You could land an agent within days, and that agent could just happen to land that with a publisher within a few weeks. But it's more likely that the process will take anywhere from 6 months to several years. Of course this depends on how marketable the book really is. If YOU are a hot commodity or the book has a short but hot window of opportunity, a sale may happen more quickly. This will also affect how long it takes for a publisher to actually get the book onto store shelves. But the time from contract to shelf is usually in the neighborhood of 18-24 months. |
